On Saturday, June 27, 2026, WPFSD hosted its 4th WordPress Contributors Meeting at Career Institute, Faisalabad. We were delighted to welcome five new participants who expressed an interest in contributing to WordPress and becoming part of the global open-source community.

Understanding the Story Behind WordPress
The meeting began with a brief look at the history of WordPress, tracing its roots back to b2/cafelog, the open-source blogging software created by Michel Valdrighi. We discussed how Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little forked the project in 2003 to create WordPress, and how it has since evolved into the world’s most popular content management system.
Participants also learned about the WordPress ecosystem, including Automattic, WordPress.com, and the role of the WordPress Community Team in supporting meetups, WordCamps, and contributors around the world.
Why Contribute to WordPress?
One of the main topics of the meeting was the value of contributing to WordPress. We explored how contributions to Core, Documentation, Translations, Support Forums, Photos, and Meetups help improve WordPress while also helping contributors build technical skills, expand their professional network, strengthen their portfolios, and create new career opportunities.
Every contribution, no matter how small, helps make WordPress better for millions of users worldwide.
WPKitchen’s Vision for Contributors
Abdul Rahman (Pomy), Chief Lunch Officer at WPKitchen, shared the vision behind WPKitchen and its growing collection of community initiatives. These include Lunch Time, Meet Time, Tea Time, Treat Time, Work Time, Visit Time, Grocery Time (coming soon), and Eidi Time.
These programs are designed to support WordPress freelancers and contributors across Pakistan by creating a stronger, more connected, and more supportive community.
Practical Session on WordPress Contributions
Core contributor Adnan Hyder Pervez led a practical session demonstrating how WordPress Core contributions work. He also introduced attendees to theme development, block pattern creation, and explained how AI tools such as Claude can assist contributors with coding, testing, documentation, and other contribution tasks.
The hands-on session gave newcomers a clear picture of how they can begin contributing to WordPress with confidence.
Advice for Growing WordPress Businesses
The meeting was also joined by Sir Muhammad Adeel Javaid, Founder of Career Institute, who expressed his support for hosting the second Campus Connect event in Faisalabad.
He encouraged participants to register their companies with the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). He explained how these registrations can increase credibility, support business growth, and create opportunities to attend international events such as WordCamps and Web Summit.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a discussion about the future of the community. Our next goals include growing the WordPress contributor community in Faisalabad, Pakistan, launching the Talk Time by WPKitchen interview series, and creating even more opportunities for WordPress contributors to learn, collaborate, and give back.
We sincerely thank everyone who attended, participated in the discussions, and shared their ideas. Every contributor starts with a single step, and we look forward to welcoming even more people into the WordPress community at our next meeting.
